Recovering SSD performance after restore

I'm thinking of getting an SSD for my laptop, and if I do, I'd like to clone the drive image from the existing hard disk (after shrinking it to fit).

Is that going to knacker performance (i.e. will the SSD think all blocks are 'in use') and if so, what can I do afterwards to 'fix' it?

PS - Likely choice will be a Vertex 2E - if that helps.

That's how I built my system, and my AS SSD benches are as fast as I've seen for Gen 1 X25's.

you might need to re-align the partition.
if you're cloning from a HDD image, the partition alignment wont be optimal for the SSD

Yes, I'll be doing that. I always align for advanced format drives now (i.e. 1MB boundaries).
