Does anyone know of any good recruitment agencies in the north london/hertfordshire region? I'm getting tired of running a warehouse now and looking for a change, possibly away from supervision...

Don't mind if the agencies are paid by the employee to find a job or the employer .

Any recommendations appreciated!

there are generic agencies like reed, hays etc...

though it might be better, if you have an idea of what you want to do, to find an agency that covers that particular sector

(also it wouldn't be a good sign at all if you had to pay an agency yourself - they work on behalf of and get paid by employers you shouldn't have to pay anything)

Depends on the job you're looking for. Generally agencies are scum, they'll only talk to you if they feel they can sell you.

also experiences vary - 'good' agency is subjective - there will be some good and bad agents within an agency.

Just remember they are sales people and their interests aren't necessarily in line with your interests - it doesn't mean they can't be useful but don't expect them to have specialist knowledge of a particular area and don't be surprised if they're slightly liberal with the truth at times - there main aim is to try and get you into a job, any job that you're vaguely suitable for and earn commission.

I've had two contact me about my CV since I put it online when I got my notice of redundancy 2 and a bit weeks ago.

Both putting me forward for roles I've not got a hope in hell of getting, but that's their problem.

My uncle runs a recruitment agency in Hertfordshire not sure if they specialize in any fields but no harm in trying them.

Why would you want an agency?...they're useless imo and can get rid of you when they want!

Look for a better job that's actually working for the company, not through an agancy.

Can you please explain how you use an agency correctly? I signed up to 6 of them, Adecco, Pertemps etc and a few local ones. Not a sniff from any of them despite 9 A-C GCSEs, 4 A levels and a B(Eng.).

Upload your cv to the major job sites (monster, reed, jobserve, cwjobs etc) surf the sites every day and then after about 2 weeks you'll start to show up on their searches, as 3rd party agencies also search their databases and will contact you. I found if I applied for jobs they never responded but they would phone you constantly trying to offer you jobs.

oh and when you get the job tell them Mr-White referred you and send me my commission ;)

When I was looking I would apply myself and phone them directly to confirm my application.
Keeping in contact with the agents makes them remember you, therefore they'll think of you first when a vacancy comes up.

Depends what you are looking for and how the role works.

In some cases you work for the agency and in other cases they just find you and you become an employee of the company.

As a contractor 85% of my roles come via agencies and in probably a third of the remaining cases I have to sign up for an agency because my company isn't on the Prefered Suppliers List.

I can't recommend a single agency I can only recommend that you use as many as possible. You are a commodity to a recruiter and they are only going to invest a very small amount of time and effort in you as they want to fill roles with the candidate that will get them the most commission, not try to find you your dream job.

You needs to cast your net wide and then sell yourself to the agent so they put your CV forward. They will have hundreds of CVs they can filter through on Monster, Jobsite, etc and its easier for them to do that than look at your CV and wonder what roles you might be suitable for.

agencies have a place. if your looking for any work and dont mind temping they are a great way of getting into it and securing some money in your pocket.

when it comes to proper jobs though most will just try and find you ANY job no matter if its actually right for you, they will generally also undervalue you.

for example I was looking to change job so went with an agency as i had good temp exp with them, I said I wanted X amount and they said their would be no chance of getting that - ended up applying for a few jobs myself and got X amount and then some.

so just be careful basically.

Of course. That's what makes them great. Once you show them that you are a desirable candidate they'll work their nuts off to get the commission.

ProTech recruitment.

Thankyou for the responses so far all, will have a proper look through tomorrow when not quite so tired!

The only reason i'm looking at agency is to widen my options a little, as i'm not entirely sure what i want to do anymore but i temped in recruitment for 8 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed that, though don't have the qualifications to do that.

To be honest, i wonder if going back to college would be a good idea as i am only 25...
