Hi Everybody,

I have seen a job vacancy on Total Jobs that I am really interested in.

I want to contact the company directly, and not go through the recruitment company.

If I ring the recruitment company will they give me the name of the company who have the vacancy?

Not a chance. The recruitment company will only get paid if they refer you to their client. They have no interest in letting you contact the company directly.

I was always under the impression that they are legally required, thats why I thought I'd check on here.

I want to go direct so I can make more of an impression, not just be a CV.
I haven't had much luck with jobs so hopefully this tactic may work

You have zero chance with this. Additionally, the company who are looking to fill the position have most likely used an agency to avoid this very thing happening.

e : out of interest, why would they be legally obliged to provide this info?

I seem to remember a gentleman that was interviewing me saying something about it.

Commission, baby.

If you're cunning, you can sometimes figure out who it is though, if you can find the vacancy elsewhere - look around the websites and so on and see if you can find the same text as in the recruitment agent's ad.

It's not just commission, it can be temp to perm fees, searching fees, sign-on fees etc. There is now way they'll provide this unless, as said, you're cunning.

The agency will be, or should be doing more than just forwarding your CV. They want their cut. Make an impression on them and they will get you in front of the employer. :)

I think he knows that and wants to cut out the agency altogether in order to, I assume, remove their commission element and add it to his salary.

Which won't happen... They'll just keep it.

The company may only recruit through an agency anyway. A lot of them do nowadays to save the hassle.

What line of work is it OP, if you do not mind me asking?

No way! We didn't get that. Trouble is 'agency' has the client details. They have to make money.

The only time I've heard of someone circumventing an agency is when they've worked for that client before and still know the hiring manager - even then it's not guaranteed at all.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting what he wants to do will work, I'm simply stating what I think he's trying to achieve. I recruit through agencies as well as internally managed recruitment and understand the pros and cons of each. I'm not disagreeing with anyone.

e : also what gambitt said.

TBH adding to the salary doesn't mean a lot to me at this moment in time. I just want to get a job in the field I want to go into
