Recurring dream - Does such a place exist?

Hi

This is a very random thread but is something that has bugged me for a few years now. Thus, it is a perfect time to open it up to the good people of overclockers!

O.K, so for many years now I have been having a recurring dream. This isn't a nightmare at all, in fact it is quite the opposite. The dream is very simple, I am on holiday, on a tropical island with very few people on it... The island is lush, green and tropical, the sea is aquamarine blue and a perfect temperature for swimming... I am fit, well, and generally in a very good place in my life and have not a worry in the world... I am perfectly relaxed and just look forward to enjoying my holiday on the island. The most vivid memory from the dream however relates to me embarking on a leisurely (but lengthy) swim between the island I find myself on and a neighbouring island... It is not like swimming the channel etc. as I can easily see the island I am swimming towards and my destination is probably no more than a couple of miles away or so. The sun and sea are relaxing and my mind is perfectly at peace as I swim from one island paradise to another.

OK, so that's the dream. The question is, does anywhere exist like this on planet earth i.e somewhere were you can (relatively easily) swim between adjoining islands? Furthermore, is it a place that is realistic for me to visit? I'm not poor but I'm not a millionaire! From a bit of googling I realise that swimming between islands separated by sea can be impossible as tidal currents etc can makes things horribly treacherous. Horever maybe an extended inland lagoon would fit my criteria just as well?

OK so thats my dream... Any ideas where I could make it happen?

maldives or Thailand springs to mind

edit: seems people do it in the maldives
If I were you, I would start with the Anantara Dhigu/Veli/Naladhu property. They are all the same holding company and clustered in the same vicinity so the issues that the DEs are raising here should be less complex (though as SL says, you absolutely need to check everything out with the target resorts beforehand). Furthermore, the Anantara threesome are all linked by a relatively shallow and highly sheltered intra-atoll lagoon. Again, I would defer to local expertise, but it looks quite tame to me. It wouldn't be the '3 miles' you mentioned, but it would be a good little stretch.

Quite a few places around the world with clusters of scattered islands - probably a lot more than most people imagine.

Maldives, been there and is exactly like this (apart from the fact I didn't swim between Islands,) only I swam round the one I was on. Took me four hours and was as if I was meant to be there.
Absolute paradise

Bintan, Indonesia. I was on a Club Med holiday and swam out to the island off the beach - probably a couple of hundred metres out and half a kilometre along. Before I got there one of the staff caught me up in a boat, telling me about the snakes on the island. I got on the boat and we then drifted up to have a look.

I'm very glad I didn't make it on my own...

Just to the right of the margarita you can see the island in the distance. It isn't as far as it looks.

The latter one was taken by me \o/

Don't swim between them though unless you feel like dying.

If you bump/swim into a young Leonardo DiCaprio and a bunch of Thai's with AK47s get the hell off the island.

I remember some episode of Bear Grylls (I think) where he walked (waist deep) between 2 tropical islands, although there was still a risk of shark attack lol

Are you asking if there are any islands in the world which are close to one another?

I do believe he is asking this question....
