Recycle old phone with data on?

I have a couple of old phones with smashed screens that I can't access the phone to wipe.
Is there anywhere legit you can send such a device where they won't just fix the screen and potentially get access to the data?

Or would you just destroy the phone?

Think the same. Shame to waste it. As I believe phones can be recycled to some extent. But the data on is not worth the risk

Take it apart. Destroy/Scrap the memory module. Recycle the rest.

I wouldn't, I've got my old Nexus 6p still with a broken screen, wont get rid of it with data on.

In that case, as others have said, just take it apart and destroy the memory and maybe recycle the rest.

Run a drill bit through the phone, not the battery though It could still be recycled, but the chances of getting the data off are very slim.
