Recycling Problem - Sunderland

Those pesky youths must have knocked it over last night...what a shame. Call it in for council as it’s now dangerous for MOP.

We had a similar issue round my way in Edinburgh. Someone put a crisp packet in the recycling bin whilst it waited on the pavement to be uplifted and in due course a sticker appeared and the bin went un-emptied until the offending item was removed.
When I pointed out to the council jobs worth that I could put anything in the bin and then put a layer of cardboard on the top then the bin would be emptied as it looks as though it is filled with recyclable material. I asked why their operative could not just chuck the offending crisp packet on the pavement or the road where they spill litter usually anyway? He hung up.

4 Wheely bins per is about half a parking spot of space per household. That's what i'm thinking of.
I can think of many flats/terraces/new builds where 4 bins would take up a fair amount of their garden space.

I stay in a small block of flats (6) and we each have a blue box (glass) Red box (small electrical) Green wheelie, (Paper cardboard ETC) Grey wheelie ( Stuff for landfill) Brown (Garden waste) and lastly small food waste bin all go out on on different day and weeks and collectively these occupy a large chunk of the back garden.

It's amazing how different councils have different rules on what they take. I'm sure clean plastic bags are allowed in our mixed recycling bin. Also I know that aerosols are allowed too where as other councils don't allow those either.

Our fortnightly recycle bin was due to be emptied today, but instead the bin men refused to empty it. They put a sticker on top of my bin saying 'please put all recyclable items in your blue bin and all non-recyclable items in your green bin'. After a lengthy phone conservation with the council they are still refusing to empty my bin and I now have nowhere to put my recyclable waste for the next fortnight. And it's all because I had a Sainsbury's carrier bag in the recycle bin and Sunderland Council tell me they cannot recycle carrier bags even though the carrier bag was made from '100% recycled plastic'.

So there you go. If you live in Sunderland and want your fortnightly recycle bin emptied, don't put a recycled plastic bag in it.

Just empty it into sacks and take it to the tip.

I swear there is some big council that all the local authorities have to make sure that no two areas are using the same coloured bins for the same things.
