Recycling Rant

Hart Council have a black bin for general waste, a blue bin for recylables and a black box for glass (H&S apparently).

they take them on alternate weeks and don't make a fuss about it, unles you have an empty blue bin for a certain length of time with no good reason.

Swindon has a good system i reckon.
Black wheelie bin for waste. Little boxes for mixed recycles. And a bag for plastic, including yoghurt pots and stuff like that.
The boxes are great, they take glass, cans, cardboard, paper, aerosol cans, clothes, aluminium foil and all sorts. As long as you crush down your beer cans it works fine.

Oh and green bags for garden waste, as many as you like.

Collect recycling boxes every week, and waste, green sacks and bottle sacks every fortnight.

I'm amazed the amount of people who's wheelie bins still overflow, we have a normal sized one and use probably half of it a fortnight. A family of 4. I expect it's people throwing away half of what they buy and moaning they don't ever have enough money.

Tetra paks are easy, the recyling centres a minute down the road, just save them all up in a box flattened down and take them down when it's full probably once every 3 or 4 months.

We get a measly plastic box for all our recycling needs, it measures approx 2 feet by 1 foot and one and a half deep. It's rubbish excuse the pun. Incidentally the lids blown off and been run over - and they won't lift it if there's no lid  - so many times that we gave it back and now bin all our rubbish.

Also down the road from us is a recycling plant, and they burn a large proportion of the rubbish that's been placed into the recycling boxes and bins anyway, so it doesn't seem worth the effort.

Obviously glass jars and bottles, plastic cartons and electrical equipment get taken to the council tip as they are easily sorted from the rest, and paper is recycled to be taken to the tip too so we're not that bad.
