As some of you know, i bought the red alreat 3 for my dad who loves these types of games.

He has just finished playing CoH agaisnt the computer on hard him V 2 cpu ai's on every map, i kid you not. He then started on RA3...

He lasted 3 hours then turned to me and said, and i quote.

'what a crock of rubbish' or words to that effect, i dont want to get banned.
So if anyone is thinking of buying it, DONT lol, go get CoH - as my dad says,

If you want a good graphic game, good AI, good maps, fun game and hard, buy CoH, if you want to waste your cash, go buy RA3 lol...

O well, £35 wasted.

Yeah, RA3 is no more than a mod of C&C3 really, which wasn't great either. They're both 'strategy by numbers' games, rather than proper stuff that you can sink your teeth in like CoH.

Bought it for him the 1st day it came out, he just got round to trying it, he hates it..

Now he is playing supreme commander and loves it, well more than RA3 at least :)

i agree with your father......ra3 is a serious disappointment.

oh if he is playing supcom...dont forget to get him the expansion (forged alliance) for it.
great expansion

There is no Supreme Commander; SupCom = FA in my eyes now. They are totally different games and I would\have never go back to the vanilla after playing FA

I'm glad I stumbled across this thread as I was going to post saying I haven't played C&C games since Tiberian Sun
and was thinking of either buying C&C 3 or red alert 3, but I won't bother with either now, forgive me being naive, but what is CoH? - City of Heroes? I will give that a try.

So if anyone is thinking of buying it, DONT lol

yea, but i need to buy it (ra2 fanboy) :D

also the AI can be really bad in CoH sometimes (sometimes all they ever seem to build are engineers, on expert and on annilhate). I still completely agree though, CoH owns everything

i was a fanboy too of the C&C series...bought every game apart from renegade.
used to love playing yuri's expansion online and zero hour with mates using the ip connect.

ra3 isnt the worse game you will play ...its ok but thats about it

Quite supprised no one recommended Dawn of war with all the expansion packs. Probably get the whole set for £30-40. How about getting your dad Starcraft 2 when it comes out.

The word gets banded about frivolously in GD, and no-one's been told it's a competitor :)

That's because they are not talking about PC software. Here we are clearly discussing another retailer with PC software as the focus, which I'm not convinced the mods would let slide so easily as in the threads discussing clothes, food etc. :)

So, Forged Alliance... why is it so much more amazing than supcom?

+1. I actually like c&c3, and thought ra3 would be the same but for the red alert universe (so an alteration of that), however the cartoonish graphics just annoy me. I could live with that however, but DRM = Me not buy.

Btw I played the beta, so that's how I know about the graphics.

Also colin, although your dad doesn't play online games, he sounds a lot more fun than mine who just sees computer games as a "waste of time," but considering he's a Demon Headmaster lookalike, I can't really take him seriously. His views have changed because of mum really rather than making up his own old mind anyway!

Company of Heroes was outstanding. Are they making company of heroes 2?

They are making a 2nd expansion for the game.

Dawn of War was average IMO. The single player had a nice story but was just too short, if you compare it with something like WC3 which had a singleplayer 3 or 4 times as long, now THAT was a great singleplayer.

Dawn of War 2 when it comes out should be amazing. No more base building, instead you start with a limited few squads of units/heroes and a limited number of reinforcements, and its played CoH style where units need to take cover and destroy enemy cover etc... It will also have some degree of replayability, because during singleplayer you will get mission choices, and you could end up having to choose between a mission that gives you war gear, or a mission to save civillians.

Actually, I'd say don't get CoH!

I'll explain - I had to uninstall it because it was too addictive, pretty much ate up whole days of my weekend. Then played RA3, coz some of my mates were playing it against each other, and I thought it was crap.

Moral of the story, CoH/CoH:OF is too good, it is addictive and ruins all inferior RTS games...

(only bad thing about it is some balance issues or just the British faction tbh)

I can't find PC Games in OC's online store, so I would have thought that doesn't make them a competitor?

And to the guy who recommended Dawn of War, +1. The first one plus the first expansion feel a little stale now, but Dark Crusade and Soulstorm are superb.
