Welcome back comrades, it's been far too long.

EA is traveling seven years back in time to bring back the most-beloved series in the storied Command & Conquer™ franchise. The light-hearted, over-the-top, wacky world of Red Alert™ has returned with Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, shipping this holiday for the PC and Xbox 360™.

After years of conflict, the Allies are finally on the brink of victory. Cowering behind the walls of the Kremlin, the Soviets decide to turn to one last act of desperation - the use of an experimental time travel device. The mission: to go back in time to eliminate Albert Einstein before he creates the technologies that will lead the Allies to ultimate victory. After a successful mission, the Soviets return to the present, discovering the Allied position has weakened. But before they can truly celebrate, they find out their actions have spawned a new threat and global superpower, the mysterious, technologically advanced, Empire of the Rising Sun. Welcome to World War III.

In Red Alert 3, all three factions will have their own hand-crafted story-driven campaigns, with co-operative missions designed solely around coordinating attacks and developing strategies with an ally. Hook up with a friend online to go through the entire experience or choose from a group of AI commanders, each with their own distinct playstyle and personality.

While most RTS games keep naval gameplay at the periphery, Red Alert 3 is not shying away from the high seas. The oceans now hold essential resources, and with many units and structures capable of becoming amphibious, players who turn their backs to the oceans will find conquering the world a daunting task.

Only a couple of weeks left now so who's pre-ordered it and do you expect to receive it on the release date via post? I've pre-ordered it online but tempted to just go and buy it in the shops as have a feeling it wont turn up on the release date as it's coming from Jersey.

I was a member of the Beta and despite starting off hating it, my housemate persuaded me to give it a few more tries and I ended up loving it. Was a huge fan of CoH so thought Red Alert 3 was far too simplistic, but when you get used to it it's great for a different type of gameplay.

I still think CoH is a better game, but they're played two different ways so dont mind loving both. Looking forward to Co-op mode in multiplayer and seeing Gemma Atkinson in action in the videos :D

I love RA's but I personally didn't like the Beta, so I guess I'll wait and see when it actually comes out!

I love the RA games, but I don't agree with the DRM that EA are using, so I'm not going to buy it, simple as.
I'll certainly play it, plus since I rarely play RTS games online that won't be a problem.

What DRM are you referring to? Thought they were loosening the DRM after pressure from C&C fans? Bought Mass Effect recently and I've used up my 3 install limit already :( System crashed first time, then I moved to linux and back to XP again! Only cost £9.99 but if I'd paid full price for a game which I now cant use I'd be peeved!

The whole online activation thing doesnt really bother me, but install limits really put me off the PC gaming market. It's like having a DVD you can only play a few times before it becoming a coaster.

RA1 and 2 were great (bar RA2's pathetic game engine that stopped any hopes of 4 player LAN matches) but the beta of RA3 was just C&C3.

can someone explain whats the story with the drm on this ??

i plan(ned) on buying it, but if its gonna be some draconian bs I will pass.

They are changing the DRM system to reimburse you with your installs when you 'de-activate' an install. Apparently, anyway.

You can only have it on 5 machines before it won't let you install it anymore. Unsure whether you have to have internet access to install though.

You need internet access to install & uninstall (if you want to free your install token up). Think EA said it allows 5 installs on 5 PC's which is quite generous. Also once activated no need to have the DVD in the drive to play.

Its as people here are saying. 5 installs, and you need to uninstall while connected to the internet or you won't get the install back.

The problem is the future, not the present. What happens if this becomes the norm? You get a virus and have to format, or a faulty driver forces you to do a system restore? You need to reinstall all the games, and you won't get back the install. Run out of installs, and you have to call up EA, or whoever else takes this on in the future. Lets say this happens 3 or 5r times, due to hardware upgrades, viruses, dead hard drives and so on. Yes, you should be more careful, but thats not the point.

You hit the 5 limit, and you have to spend the next half an hour phoning up 10 different companies for 15 different games to get new activation keys for them all.

EA just need to open their eyes, look around at what other types have DRM have worked. Games like RA3 will have a huge online following, so obviously keychecks when connecting to the master server make sense. UT2004 uses this method, a simple keycheck. Enter the key while installing and you can play single player without activation, go online and you have to pass the master server to play, which checks for blacklisted/multiple keys.
Or even Sins of a Solar Empire. It sold fantastically, you don't even need to enter a CD key to install, you don't need a CD to play. It just uses the tried and tested method of key checks when you play online, and it worked. Sure the game was pirated, but so was Spore. And Mass effect. And every other game that ever made.

Harsher DRM doesn't stop people pirating the game, heck Spore was on the torrent sites before it was released! And programs like Hamachi let you play with your friends while avoiding the master server key checks. Forcing the people who pay for the game to jump through hoops, while giving the pirates an easy ride isn't going to work. I'm fine with games having DRM, its to be expected. I'm not too fussed about games calling home to see if the CD key has been blacklisted, or something like that.

Basically, if its easier to pirate the game than it is to buy it, you're doing it wrong.

Ahh right so long as you can get the install quotas back if you uninstall then thats fine. Thought it was a case that if you used up all 5 installs you had to bin the game which would have been incredibly lame!

Just over two weeks left now so long as the jersey place delivers on time woo!

That well known high st retailer delivers usually 2 days before street date (and you get reward points which means for every 5 games you buy you can get one free).

is this a gold announcement then?

Well the game's gone gold so take it however you wish!
