Red Bull allowed to keep wins, but must modify their car

Quali and race pace are often different, the weather just makes that difference even more pronounced.

If you mean a driver can be ahead in 3rd practice and then the weather changes and they are nowhere in Quali; practice times shouldn't be compared to quali as you don't know the fuel load and set up of all of the cars.

We know that certain cars are better suited to certain tracks, and when you combine this with aggressive in-season development, it's no surprise that teams are trading places over different weekends when you consider how close they all are to begin with.

Chuck in a bit of luck (good and bad) and I don't think it's as random as your suggesting.

so itds not random when a team can be miles ahead in quali and the weather changes and they are nowhere?

not random when merc / rbr / ferrari /mclaren / williams / sauber can be dominating one race and 10th place the next?

looking at the race results there isnt much of a pattern and its not because the cars are so close

Again, when you look at the time differences between Friday/Saturday/Sunday performances, they are no different to last year. Its just that the half a second or so that you might loose is now filled with 10 cars!
