Hey guys, I'm currently looking to get my hands on some case lights for my windowed CM690 that i'm modding.

I'm going for a black and red theme, so painting the inside of the case black and i've just ordered 5 Enermax Apollish 120mm red fans to dot around.

But I was also looking to get some kind of lighting solution to bathe the inside of my case in red light.

I've seen plenty of cold cathode tubes around, but many of the reviews say that they come out pink in use. I've also tried sourcing LED lighting solutions in the UK, but it seems no one carries the damned things.

Does anyone know of a case light that will give me a good, true red colour and can be bought from the UK?

Cheers

i had the same problem, ordered red cathodes, installed them and ended up with some pinkish glow :/ didn't look too good.
red leds would be the way to go for case lighting in red.

Any good with a soldering iron? Why not make some of your own?

I did a similar thing with white LEDs here. Nothing like getting your hands dirty :)

These would be perfect i think, or how about some red tint to the window glass?

To be honest the last time I used a soldering iron was in school and I remember burning through several PCBs doing it.

Maybe I should have another go now I've had a chance to 'mature' a bit :p.

If anyone can come up with a pre-built solution however i'd still be interested.

The akasa ones that OcUK sell are more pink colour.

Yeah this is what i've heard about a lot of the cold cathode kits. I don't think that lighting tech lends itself to producing true red very well. That's why i'm trying to hunt down an alternative at the moment.

Get a white cold cathode, and buy some lighting gel (Its a film). Ruby red will do you. Its about £4 per sheet, but excellent stuff! Pull end cap off cathode, insert cut piece of film. Job done.

I do this for red lights at astronomy meets, use 2 cathodes in the tent red lighted in this way.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but I took the plunge today and ordered a pair of Xoxide Sunlight sticks in red from the US.

Hopefully the LED will be a better bet than cathode.

Whoa, OK I received my Enermax Apollish fans in the post today, i've just got back from work and fitted one to see how it looks and i'm not even sure i'm going to need any additional lighting any more. These things are super bright:

Keep in mind this is a single 120mm fan, I've got 4 more to go in once I've painted the inside of the case.

And yes I know I need to do some cable management, I'm stripping the machine down completely to do the re-spray and I'm planning on doing a better job when I rebuild.
