I also thought this was a joke but I saw it on the title screen. Immediatley I knew this was going to be ****.
 
Not great eh maybe some things are best left once they finished, lets hope part 2 is better, back to the old ones i guess when it was a classic.
 
I did laugh out loud at "engaging innocent whistle mode". :)

Looks like they are paying homage to a few Sci-Fi classics, the gun scene in the diving bell was straight out of Star Wars, the crashing through the windows scene in the trailer (episode 2 i assume) is straight from Bladerunner :)

I really didn't think it was that bad.

i thought is was great. imagine some of the first series with no studio audience, it wouldnt have been much difference. the jokes and their acting was far less of a slap-stick affair than it was in the last two series.

liked it :)
 
I thought it was pretty good, not as great as the older episodes though, and too short IMO as it was 30 mins with adverts. I'm looking forwards to part 2 tomorrow though :)
 
I really enjoyed it actually, my expectations weren't high and they were easily surpassed. I didn't like the use of CGI (obviously the skutter) but I guess they don't have a lot of the original models any more. It made me laugh several times and it was great having the characters back on screen. Obviously I'll have to wait for the 2nd and 3rd parts to judge the story. I did like the CGI being used to show the cargo holds, you never really got the impression that red dwarf was a big ship in the original (in fact the first thing my dad said was 'wasn't red dwarf a small ship?')

Also I think it is a bit harsh to compare it to the 3 episodes that followed which were probably 3 of the top 5 Red Dwarf episodes.

I think the episode will stand up better when viewed alongside the other two parts. Red Dwarf was mostly about single episode storylines, so tonight's felt somewhat slow in comparison to a 'normal' Dwarf episode. I thought it was still pretty funny, though obviously we weren't told where to laugh ;).
 
Not brilliant but I liked it, so chuffed to see it back on TV though :D

Cant understand how they're holding two holograms on the ship, the misses instantly harped up about that right before Rimmer mentioned it...

I wish they'd give some explanation to the "ending" of the last series as well... but meh.

Am I mistaken but I thought there was only two new episodes? The third show is the "making of" isn't it??

That's certainly the case, slow as it wasn't stand alone. I thought it better than expected. Need to watch all three parts to be able to compare with the old stuff.
