Tools being stored on the premises of your employer should be covered by their own insurance. I would certainly ask them if this is the case. If my employer didn't cover mine, I'd be taking them home!
I bought a very expensive tool box end of last year, so wanted to insure it myself. I was unable to insure it because it's stored in a place that I have no responsibility for.
They would only offer insurance to myself if it was at my home address, or the work address was mine.
