Red Orchestra 2..

I bought it on release but my **** poor PC and unoptimised game engine meant I had a pretty patchy experience. Mate of mine who I told to pick up Arma 2 this weekend and who is a big FPS fan. Played at a fairly decent level of CS plus the top of the DOD scene when it was popular. He also plays Quake 3 still.

Anyway he tried the free weekend and says he has put in 27 hours between late Sat-Sun. Urging me to buy it not knowing that I already own it. Will need to re-install and see the changes for myself.

It's definitely worth a second look. Also, there has been a big increase in the amount of custom maps, some of which are fantastic, and mostly available through steam workshop.

I played this on release and enjoyed it then. Played for quite some time then moved onto something else. Keep meaning to go give it another go as I'm bored to tears with most current games.

I grabbed this last night as it was going cheap. Very glad I did. Wonderful gameplay and gunplay. I'm finding it a bit tricky to differentiate between Germans and Russians in the heat of the moment though.

Grey / green :-)

No, this is never 100% reliable, especially when they are standing near fire. the only sure fire way to to watch how they carry their gun when they are running. The germans will carry it in one hand while the ruskies carry in both hand across their chest. It is a measure of the realism of the game that if you try to play like a real soldier you just have to positively ID your foes rather than shooting at everything that moves and saying "my bad" if it was one of your own guys. Trigger happy campers rarely do this of course, but it is the way the game should be played.

I reinstalled it and its improved dramatically, so I take back what I said. Not the part about RO 1 being better in its heyday though.

People only seem to play realistic mode which I prefer but might put off some people, and you will probably be playing the same selection of maps because by now the players have their preferred maps.

For the price in the op its a no brainer.

Its terrible, worst game i have ever bought on Steam

Never worked properly on my Q6600 CPU, now I have an i5 and GTX570 it still plays terrible. Save your money for a pint

How it that possible when my ati 4890 handles it fine with everything on full? You make it sound like the game is unplayable

I have an i5 with an HD6870 which is probably similar to or worse than a GTX570 and I have no issues with the game's performance. Even allowing for the fact that the issue with the game and not your PC, it's hardly justification for calling the game terrible.

Ill give it a re-install - hopefully its been updated because it does look like a fantastic game

failing that I'll play some more SOF2 :)

I have some passed if anyone would like?

I played RO for years, read the bad press on RO2 and gave it a miss. Picked it up cheap last weekend and have enjoyed the short time ive had with it. Going to get familiar tonight after xmas food shop

I have Q6600 and a 6870 and its not very playable on max settings, but on high settings its fine.

Its still not as smooth as I'd like though.

I'm after people who can commit to testing a new expansion pack. If you liked RO2 and can commit 2 hours twice or three times a week mainly on weekends and also can provide feedback on tester forums then send me your Steam ID and email address in PM.

Do not bother replying if you aren't going to make the effort to leave feedback, this isn't meant to be a free trial, committed testers are needed and feedback is valued. You'll be required to sign, print off and scan an NDA with your signature - if that is too much effort then do not PM me.
