Red wine

Find out what type of wine the person it's for likes. There's nothing worse than receiving a bottle of wine for a gift that you don't like. Do you know what they will be having it with? On it's own? Paired with certain food? Do they like full-bodied/light reds? Their favourite tasting notes? Grapes?

More information is needed really, it's very hard to suggest something out of the blue that they may like.

It's for my mother, and I'd assume the wine would be enjoyed with a meal. As far as I know, her favourite wine is an Australian Shiraz. The wine would be drank absolutely to be enjoyed, rather than as an expensive means of becoming intoxicated.

Mollydooker's Blue Eyed Boy is an excellent Aussie shiraz for around the £30 mark.

In that case, at that price I'd be looking at trying to acquire either a bottle of St. Henri Shiraz from Penfolds or the Dead Arm Shiraz from d'Arenberg Estate.

And due to younger grapes new world wines have to generally be more fruit driven to give flavour.
