There's no such thing as a gaming laptop that makes no noise but what if we define a "quiet gaming laptop" as one which will:-

a) Run the games you want to play
b) at a frame rate that's playable
c) at 1080p (good enough for me)
d) with a noise level less than 40db
e) without getting excessively hot

Very few reviewers (only one that I've seen) test frame rates in what is the 'quiet' or 'silent' mode.
What affects the above criteria in 'silent' mode?
Would you still get the best performance in silent mode from the most powerful machines or would the less power hungry versions work better with lower power CPU's and GPU's.

For reference the games I like to play are Pathfinder-WOTR, Grim Dawn, Division 2, Divinity. I'm happy with 1080p and only need frame rates to be just ok.
Just wondering what are the things I should be considering while I look for a new laptop.

TIA

have you considered streaming the games to the laptop? i.e. steam streaming as an example
that ciovers points a/b/c/d/e
expanded :
a) steam streaming should work fr the most part but its not perfect.
b) so long as you dont needs twitch reflecs of a 12 year old this should be fine.
c) 1080 should work with out to any realy issues in general so (y)
d) witht he machine in another room you shouldnt here a thing
e) similar hot ness to running a youtube video basically.

Steam streaming is how i play 95% of my "high power" games. sub nautica / baulders game / dyson spere project
supreme commander forge alliance for what ever reason doesnt work for me properly through steam streaming for the mouse scrolling around the map :/

just a thought. if you have the hardware.

oter wise around 53 underload seems the norm and between 38 and 43 for quiet and performance. at least based on

That 40db requirement means the below is the only realistic option imo.

Microsoft Surface Pro 9 + Geforce Now Paid Subscription & Games Pass Ultimate Cloud Gaming which covers both options.

Silent gaming, long battery life (which can be extended via a normal USB power bank), fantastic screen & portability, huge games library available via GFN linked to your Steam, Microsoft libraries etc.

I haven't looked back. GFN with the RTX4080 (desktop not mobile versions) and up to 4k gaming offers a better experience than most options.

On battery, gaming laptops never perform to their full potential anyway, plugged in, most ones are very noisy.

Can & do also game off my Phone, iPad, TV, Desktop using the same subscriptions.

i still think a dedicted gaming pc in a differant room OR use the current laptop in a differant room and steam streaming to a standard laptop in the same room as Op would be better long term. Cheap 2nd hand laptop or a mini PC with screen ect in a differant location.
