Redex revisited.....

32:04 look at the variation in the figures. 3-4 bhp difference between runs,

wonder how much money the manufacturers of redex paid them?

tbh id take it with a pinch of salt. an experienced dyno operator can manipulate figures to show what they want.

Wasn't that the point, not watched the link but remember watching when it was on TV and they did 8 runs and took the average of the 8 runs to account for variation in conditions etc.

Edit: note I'm not saying I believe redex works

Video won't load for me but Which engined corrado did they use ? Aren't the 16vones mechanical injection , which makes this plausible when the metering head and lines are full of 15-20 years worth of crap .

The last car I put some redex in was a 1ltr Polo Coupe. I ignored the instructions and dumped a full bottle in 1/4 tank.

Quite a lot of crap came out the exhaust tbh. No idea if it made any power difference but the engine sounded a little better.

My Saab dealer (yes, they still exist) sent me an email recently offering an engine 'fuel system treatment' for £20. Think I'm going to take them up on it as my car's done 120k, is turbo'd and also had the ECU Hirsched, so there may be more gunked up deposits than normal. Wouldn't bother with a newish car though.

Here's their blurb:

"Certified under stringent testing conditions, our Saab Fuel Treatment has been welcomed by Saab owners across the country for its incredible ability to improve fuel consumption by up to 14%. And, with fuel costs currently exhorbitant, that’s a big step in the right direction towards improved fuel economy. Specifically formulated to combat driveability concerns caused by contamination and the adverse effects of fuel degradation, Saab Fuel Treatment cleans and lubricates the entire fuel system both pre- and post-combustion. Used at every service or when symptoms indicate, it is completely safe for all fuel system components including catalytic converters and oxygen sensors."

I remember in an episode of Wheeler Dealer the guys bought a car that need to pass its emissions and Edd went through some machine that cleans the engine of carbon deposits etc. Anyone who watched it remember what it was? Looked quite intriguing.

Terraclean. Similar effect, just more concentrated and more involved. Also reputed to get rid of any carbon build up, unlike Redex fuel system cleaner which predictably just cleans out the fuel side of things.

No reason not to throw a bottle in if you're starting from scratch. I've put it in a few older cars, just for the sake of it. Not going to do any harm.

Terraclean.

Terraclean looks pretty dubious to me, anyone actually seen any before/after scopes of the intake side? That's the real test of if it's effective.

Surely if the stuff actually worked they'd have some nice shiny intake valve pictures rather than just a few pics of the slightly fruity chap with long hair.

Ah yes that's the one, anyone terracleaned there cars? Quite tempted to do mine, but always worried it might mess something up!

In the wheeler dealer episode it supposedly reduced the emissions. But just saw Edd on there website so could have been a bit of marketing for them

Some blurb about his involvement here:

Some independent testimonials here (same article though just in 2 different magazines):

Check on Jaguar forums. Couple of threads where injectors have failed after being terracleaned.

Were those diesel cars though? If so, those piezo electric injectors have incredibly fine tolerances, wear with age/use, and generally known to fail anyway, particularly the previous generation Ford TDCi ones (which is the same / similar engine to that used in the Jag diesel?)
