Ok, this year will be the year of the bathroom, when that bit of my house is hopefully transformed from the highlight tasteful apricot and floral pattern that it is, to a modern room with nice white fittings, non mouldy grout, etc.

I've measured out the room and have a rough idea of the layout I want to go for, so now I'm into looking around showrooms (locally and online), and trying to figure out where to get everything from. I'll do most of the work myself, I was just looking for recommendations from people on where to source all the bathroom stuff - I'm doing the whole lot, from tiles right through to shower enclosure and shower bar.

Any and all suggestions welcomed!

Cheers.

I'd start by browsing around and make a board of everything you like, chuck it all together then you'll find a theme, start with the tiles sizes colour sheen then the shower enclosure then the sanitary ware then brassware.

I'd buy tiles based on looks and price because they are all pretty much the same quality once stuck to the wall try hr Johnston tiles for inspiration

Try cp hart for sanitary ware get some ideas from bathstore but their prices are ott

Think about

Underfloor heating we paid 100 for a electric mat kit and it's excellent great vfm

Heated mirror again not much extra but a good addition

Downlighters in the correct position not in a grid but ove4 where you need them eg over the loo for reading over the mirror over the shower head

Towel rail if you can get a dual fuel one in then it could save you money in the future to only take the chill out the bathroom rather than heat the whole house

Ventilation if you can afford it get a heat recovery vent taking moisture out but leaving heat in

Bath buy a steel bath more expensive but a lot better and won't eventually flex and break mastic seals

Wow, loads of info there macca, cheers!

So far...

I have a good idea of requirements, just don't know the specific items that will fulfill those requirements at this point.

Not sure about the underfloor heating as it's not a particularly cold room, but I was intending to put in a towel radiator which should tick the box at least.

I'll probably skip the heated mirror, never been a fan.

Downlighters are something I've really been thinking about - how do you find them vs a normal single fitting? It's not a huge room (about 2.5m square), but I can easily get into the loft space above to run wiring to fit them if I choose to.

Not heard of the heat recovery vents before, I'll look into those, thanks.

Avoiding a bath like the plague, it will be a shower only room!

And the water stays hotter.:)

Also with downlighters look for Low Voltage Halogen Downlights IP65 rated, enables them to be used in the Bathroom – Zones 1,2 & 3.

LEDs are great we have ge 25yr guaranteed ones I paid 200 for 12 no need for fire hoods either as they emit next to no heat.

One thing with the underfloor heating is the floor stays dry

Get LED's but beware some new led fittings that are guarantied for 20 years etc are only covered if installed by a Part P electrician so if they should fail the manufacturer would ask for your test certificate for that particular circuit.

Useful to know, cheers. Fortunately I have a sparky mate so if needs be I'll call in a favour!
