Reducing Body Roll?

A strut brace is going to do next to nil for body roll

If its going to be done, he just needs some bloody lowering springs.

An alternative anti roll bar would help, but you could only really seek dealer advice and fitment in order not to invalidate manufacturer warranty. Eg: perhaps an item from a sportier version or something (but same make/model of course). In truth I haven't a clue if they would accomodate you, but I see no great reason why not if as you state the issue is aggrevating.

Uprated springs and dampers will likely stiffen up the ride and possibly make it too firm. My feeling is that a bigger ARB will reap benefit. As the saying goes though, you get nothing unless you ask, so give it a shot and talk to the service desk about an alternative front (and perhaps rear too) roll bar and fitting.

its like a handling package - you do all of those i guarantee better handling all round much more balanced that just doing springs (and dampers.)

but given the car is 1 year old i dont think the dampers need replacing even if you did the springs- but if you wanted to go the whole hog, you could throw them on too.

i did rear ARB first on my car and it made a difference,. but if your springs are sloppy then you will need to change these for sportier version otherwise you're not going to see any real benefit/

slapping any old dampers, arbs, strut braces on a car is almost guaranteed to make it worse.

Decent, progressive lowering springs will do the job and do not require the dampers changing. But as people have said, this will invalidate the warranty on your shocks at least.

Leave it as is. Whatever you might do clearly will cost money and is likely to result in an overall worse solution than you have already. You might solve body roll, but result in a much firmer suspension, or a car that simply can't deal with poor road conditions and keep it's tyres in contact with the road correctly.

Fox is right, leave it be.

If you are determined however, MikeHiow is the only person talking any sense in this thread. OP isn't trying to turn it into a track car FFS, he does not need a full suspension package. A set of progressive springs will reduce bodyroll without compromising ride too much.

Uprated ARBs will have a similar effect, but despite the name, ARBs are more about tuning a car's handling balance than eliminating bodyroll. You use ARB stiffness to move a car's neutral point between oversteer and understeer. It's overkill for what the OP is trying to achieve.

In summary: If you must do something, just fit a set of uprated progressive springs.

There was a Sport option for the Mk5 Golf for about £150 iirc which gave you stiffer springs.

As above, you need stiffer springs to reduce body roll. Stiffer ARBs are a waste of time ime without stiffer springs.

If you start modding it you'll end up like Firestar, who has ploughed thousands of pounds into a VW Passat estate for reasons nobody else will ever understand and has ended up with a car no better really than when he started :p

Enjoy it how it is.

What did he do?

Sounds expensive...

Find a set of coil-overs which work well on others and beef up the rear anti-roll bar. Body roll can mask good handling sometimes.

the car is a year old.

If he starts fitting coilovers, strutbraces, ARB and lowering springs the dealer is going to be blaming everything under the sun on the mods.

Just keep it standard and put up with it.
