Redundancy

It's a sobering experience to realise that the company which you work for and thought valued you, really doesn't give a flying monkey turd and you are just a number after all.

This, I've been made redundant twice, it really does suck.

Nobody should ever feel they are any other than "dispensable" to a company no matter what they've said in the past, you're just a number on a page when the bean counters get their hooks into it!

Chin up, there *IS* something better around the corner.

To be honest I wouldn't waste your energies "fighting it", use that for finding a new job.

My dad worked in a single company from the age of 18.

He put his entire life in to it, and how do they thank him? By making him redundant 2 years from retiring, slashing his company pension by 80%!!!!

As a result of this, I hold no loyalty to any company I work for beyond loyalty to myself.

yep and there will be 2.5 million other people after it as well.....

Well with that attitude you're gonna be stuffed ;)

The OP shouldn't waste his time fighting the inevitable, he sounds like he's a "skilled" person, dependent on those skills it might be very easy for him to find his next role.

Having been made redundant twice it has changed my attitude towards work, I still work hard (too hard some would say) but I try and keep a work/life balance. I know that "lipservice" from employers it exactly that, it doesn't matter how hard you work you'll still be "down the road" if they don't want you anymore.

my place is 1month/year worked there with a cap of 6 months I beleive, not bad eh?

Very nice, standard week thing here, meaning 7 weeks if I should get the cut, but I have survived 2 rounds of redundancy in the past so I'm not that worried.

I went through 9 redundancy rounds at one company, I finally jumped ship and took a years salary, jumped straight into another job :)

its not bad its rubbish. My place is 1month/year with enhanced 1/5ths for every year you're over thirty. Cap is 3yrs plus those enhancements.

The old civil service compensation scheme was pretty good, with extra months for things like being over 35, and being over 40.

I know a lot of guys when I was in my previous job 'lost' a lot (as everyone was being made redundant in stages up until March next year it was coming to them) when they changed it all to just a month per year regardless of your age.

I was made redundant at the end of July after working for them for 5 years, and walked straight into another job with a few quid behind me. Generally speaking, if you're prepared for it, there are very few people who will get made redundant and not do well out of it. Most go onto bigger and better things. :)

Don't let any bitterness stick around, you'll do well to get on and move on unless they really screw you over for compensation.
