Fingers crossed, I've just flogged my X1900XT to a mate and will be acquiring an HD3870 tomorrow. :D

I'm looking at transferring over an Accelero S1 from the 1900 to the 3870, but was wondering about the thermal material that came pre-applied to the base of the S1. Obviously it'll be squidged from the original fitting, so what should I do? I have some AS5 and MX-2 lying around, along with some Arcti-clean. Should I just clean it off and apply one of those? Or should I get some thermal tape? Or something else?

Don't think it matters what paste you use. As for thickness because it's a direct contact with the core, and is smaller area I use less. Fix the plastic clips to the edge of thevideocard, lining up with the spaces on the S1 . Apply a even thin layer over the core, hold the S1 over the core (but not touching) then thread the bolts round the other side, when you've got all of them in lower the S1 onto the core, then tighten up the 4 screws.
