Need a little help. My 250gb SSD is sitting at 111 gb capacity after trying to reformat.

Now I remember a while ago I increased my USB storage drive back to full capacity after it had an iso image on it. Can a similar thing be done?

I am familiar with diskpart however can't figure it out.

Or is there a programme I can download?

Or am I screwed?

Cheers.

It probably has some of the space unallocated by the sounds of it. You can fix it in disk management.

Assuming your running windows, hit the windows keys on your keyboard and type Computer Management and hit enter when it pops up in teh start menu, then click disk management from the list on the left when it opens up and find the disk in question in the list.

It like likely have a partition on it and some unallocated space. You can either choose to extend the current partition to fill the space, or if you want to start from scratch (effectively deleting your data) you can just delete any existing partitions on that drive and just create a new by right clicking on the current partition then removing it, then right clicking on the unused space to remake it.

Thanks but this is the problem, in disk management it says fully allocated it has 111gb max capacity. I have deleted all data and partitions but then when it comes to reformatting it only lets me chose 111gb.

You could try a diskpart clean so it removes all partition information and see if that gives you the space back.

Yes I tried that in diskpart still won't budge from 111GB.

There is no 'unallocated' space.

Appears what was allocated to Windows Back up has been permanently erased.... (was an SSD in another computer that I put into my new PC for extra storage)

I think it might have something to do with the 'lost' capacity is formatted as Fat32? I need to reformat that space to NTFS possibly?

Another thing worth doing is checking the manufacturer's OEM tool to see if it can see the hidden space. Might even have the wrong firmware flashed onto it.

You sure it's a 256GB drive?

111GB is the usable space for a 120GB drive.

Check the model number in Device Manager and google it.
