Reformatting an SSD

I've got an SSD which I partitioned when installing W7 a few years ago.
I've got a new SSD which I installed W7 on, the only Drive connected during the install.

I want to delete the partitions on the old SSD and use it for data etc alongside the new unit.
Both SSD's therefore have the same W7 install.

If I just install the old SSD on its own can I boot from the W7 DVD and simply delete all the partitions and do a quick format of the SSD.
This presumably will also remove the first small partition which I believe Windows installs on a boot drive and leave me with an empty drive which will work alongside the new one.

Or could I connect both SSD's at the same time, boot from the new one and delete all partitions on the old.
I've been dabbling in a very basic way with Gparted. Is that a safe and easy option.

Any advice appreciated.

yes both ssd's connected secure erase the old one

if its a Samsung drive it has its won secure erase software in Samsung magician tool

Would a simple reformatting not be sufficient.

'Secure erase' using something like Parted Magic is what you recommend ?.

simple format is ok,trim will sort out the drive later on

secure erase if you know your way around parted magic, (might have to put drive to sleep) in pm
