I'm sure the title didnt really give a clear description, but it was the only thing i could come up with that represents about what i'm about to explain.

Scenario, been running my venice several months, and experiencing a little lag in games.

Purchased new case, and monitor. Akasa Eclipse, and a Hyundai X90W 19" TFT Widescreen.

Got it all wired up and looking hot, didnt play a game for a few days. Fired up a game, game seems to lag, like parts of the screen cant catch up. FPS is 35 minimum. Tried various games, Trackmania, Counter Strike Source, HL2, Titan Quest, Age of Mythology, Rome Total War, Darkstar One. All the same laggyness.

So think maybe its time for a reinstall and a clean slate of drivers. So install XP Pro with SP2, flash to latest bios on mobo, install latest cats, latest mobo drivers, and so on..... Install Battlefield 2. Defragging between each.

Boot game up using comand line to display in widescreen. Game still looks laggy and fps is still fine. I try various things like locking the fresh, tried with an without monitor drives. NOTE: At native res the only refresh is 59htz.

So figured it must be the monitor. Plug in the old 21"CRT trinitron, still same laggyness.

So by this point very confused. Used driver cleaner and tried 6.8, 6.7, 6.6, 6.4, 6.3 & 6.1 cats, and still the same thing.

Sometimes it clears up and its better but still not right.

I've tried running at stock, to the same effect.

I spent a little time reading today about ATI cards in nforce4 boards, and even tried a hotfix, to no avail. I even suspected the HDD at one point when it locked up and started ticking, but thats gone away now and all drives are passing Western Digital diagnostics tool and scandisk.

Checked psu rails and they look rock.

I'm thinking buy a cheap PCI-E nvidia card to drop in, just to see if the problem is in that area, unfortunately the 3 other pc's are still agp.

Any suggestions peeps? :)

Tried both on and off with games, doesnt seem to make any difference.

Scrolling webpages with certain graphics causes lines whilst scrolling to, have also used a particular webpage to help get clock and pahze settings better but i'm still getting some what looks to me like refresh issues.

I have dropped the OC back to stock and it helps but the problem is still qquite apparent.

I was thinking plop in a cheapo nvidia card to see it helps, then at least i'll know if i have one of those ATI flicker/refresh issues i've been reading about.

New card amongst a few other bits arrived today, going to finally track down this problem.

Going to spend a good few hours with the bios seeing if i have stability issues there, then swap the cards if no joy.

Either way its handy to have the spare incase i sell the x1800xt (if its working correctly).

Also have a new cooler to plop on the CPU... :D plus a 120mm fan and a fan bracket so i can vent some more toward the graphics card.

Just wanted to update my current progress with this issue. Always helps to post the solution (if you find one), for others to read... :D

New card went in and made little to no difference.

Wiped all the drivers for the display and mobo and reinstalled with the old drivers off the disk, seems my problem has vanished now.

Mobo drivers off the disk, and Omega 6.2 cats, seems to of solved the problem.

BF2 is constant 80-90 FPS maxed out (apart from the initial 5 seconds 15-25) and playable now.... :D

Had a 6200LE for testing with, and OMG that card can't run anything, i at least expected it to run a few minor games, but it just seemed to crap out at practicly anything i tried with it. Desktop use and basic stuff was fine, but it even slowed my boot time by 3-5 seconds, can't say i'd recommend it for any system but it makes a stop gap if i need to stick something in, if say i was to sell my x1800xt, but no chance of that.... :D

I've seen much older cards on AGP show better performance then the 6200LE, but i'm not too fussed as i can go play some games now... ;)

Budget card - Avoid the 6200LE, imo not even worth the £35 i paid for it.
