So my Swift developed a dead pixel after only 7 days which as you can imagine for the price of this thing I'm more than a little miffed at.

I love this monitors G-Sync feature and high refresh rate but nigh on everyone I know who's bought one has had some sort of problem with it and considering the price of this thing it straight up should not be happening.

So question to the community, Get it exchanged for Hopefully a new one or just get a refund and go for an IPS panel ?

Refund mate to many problems with this monitor, they seemed to have rushed these out as every forum I go on there is a thread about how bad they are.

The only problem is, Which monitor do I now get ?

I mean I've gotten use to 1440P, G-Sync and 144Hz, It's going to be hard going back to 60Hz at 1440P :(

To reject a monitor alone on its level of trim is facile.

Really? On something you have to look at every day?

...I think not. Unless of course, it's that-much better. Which all things considered it-is-not. Me and a couple of other members are trying to coax one another into trying the Acer Predator over the Swift, and quite frankly none of us want to. The Swift as far as gaming monitors go covers all bases, panel type fascism aside.

I agree its not the best looking monitor but the op said he wanted G-Sync,1440p with high refresh rate and IPS so the Acer Predator XB270HU is literally his only choice.

Glossy plastic - no problem!

Even though the acer isn't as nice looking and well it's acer... I rather have it over the swift any day of the week:

- IPS is better than TN, better colours, viewing angles (no contrast shift as soon as you go of-centre), higher contrast ratio
- most importantly, the acer has a much lighter anti-glare coating i.e. not grainy looking, this has a massive impact on image quality

Not convinced. Well, the benefits of particular panel types aside. For gaming I tend not to go off centre as I would imagine most professional gamers wouldn't either unless suffering from a medical condition. I've no doubt it's a great monitor - but coming from someone who impulse buys on a regular basis...I don't feel I really want one.

However, would I buy a Swift over the Acer not owning either? I truly still don't know - I think I would buy the Acer initially at the very least. However furthering on from the point above - trim is pretty important when considering surround - and boy is that trim ugly.

Those requirements do limit your choices yes lol.

As a very happy Rog Swift owner, I still would be tempted to get a refund and try out an IPS equivalent if the opportunity came up. Not saying I would definitely do it, I would have to give it some thought.

The fact it's Acer and its build quality and looks would definitely put me off though. If it was a Dell or something I'd be straight on it. Probably.

Well yeah I wouldn't get the acer if you have a swift already unless you really want one of the above 2 things and can sell the swift for a decent price....

Badass/tftcentral (one of the very best monitor review sites) crowned it as the new king of gaming monitors

Move over Asus ROG Swift PG278Q, in our opinion we've got a new king of gaming monitors! We won't repeat everything we've been through in the gaming sections of this review but when you combine the high 2560 x 1440 resolution, fast response times, freedom from overshoot, 144Hz refresh rate support, ULMB blur reduction mode, G-sync support and very low lag you have one hell of a gaming monitor. We feel that this screen pips the excellent Asus ROG Swift PG278Q thanks to its IPS panel, bringing with it a lighter, clearer AG coating and improvements in image quality and viewing angles compared with TN Film offerings. You're really combining the best of both worlds here. The Asus does have the edge we felt in appearance, design and build quality

Also, not sure why people always make statements like this when viewing angles are brought up....

For gaming I tend not to go off centre as I would imagine most professional gamers wouldn't either unless suffering from a medical condition.

So you are telling me that you are ALWAYS perfectly in the centre and never move your head at all when gaming, watching videos, browsing the web etc.?

I and others could say the same when it comes to the design/bezel etc. When you are playing a game, you never look at the borders as you should be/are too involved in the game or whatever you are doing :p

The only time I am ever sat perfectly in the centre of my screen is when playing semi-competitive MP FPS like bf 4 and using my M+KB, any other game, I will be sitting back with my feet up on the desk using a 360 controller.

Also, 90% of the swift owners are just "casual" gamers, not "professional" gamers :p In fact, most "professional" gamers are more likely using benq gaming screens since they are usually the sponsor for esports teams.

The screen adjusts so you can quite simply lower or tilt the monitor if you're leaning back?

I've had no issue with colour shift on the Swift.

I tend not to have my head too far to the left or right...

I also don't see what the issue with the coating is, I don't find the monitor grainy at all and it works well if there's any sunlight hitting the screen. I guess if you dwell in a basement it's not for you :p

I think there is a hardcore entry between the casual and professional :P

Aside from my experience with Acer has been very hit and miss quality wise for high end FPS gaming the Swift still has the edge in motion clarity, etc. IMO.

Personally I can't say viewing angle on most reasonably modern TNs really bothers me - I've usually got either the Dell 21:9 IPS or a Samsung PLS alongside the 4K and Swift on my desk and it doesn't unduly bother me moving from one to the other aslong as I'm reasonably towards the centre.

Also worth noting you might end up with a XB270HU like this guys on overclock.net:

IPS glow ftw.

Yup you could very well encounter excessive IPS glow especially with it being acer... but you run the risk of getting some problem with any monitor these days, be it dead pixels, backlight bleed, marks on the screen etc. Unfortunately the QC seems to have gone to **** with monitors lately :(

The main thing, which matters with monitors now (imo) is the customer service so unfortunately that rules out a lot of manufacturers now, thankfully asus seem to be getting a bit better now.

Yes, you can do that with any monitor but it requires faff for every time you want to sit at a different angle :p

Like motion clarity etc. I think contrast shift is just something that varies from person to person, some are more sensitive to it than others, there were a few people in the swift thread who came from using IPS monitors and couldn't cope with the contrast shift so had to send it back.

As for the coating, it is something you will notice when the monitor is next to a monitor with a very light anti-glare coating:

The coating massively impacts the contrast plus clarity/sharpness of the screen

I find it is even noticeable in very bright lighting, my monitor sits next to a big velux window and I can notice the difference between my dell u2311h and lg 29um65 anti-glare coating.

Best way to see just how much of an impact anti-glare/matte coatings have on image quality is too buy a few anti-glare/matte screen protectors for your mobile phone/tablet.
