I have three kids, we fill the bin within a week, we then have 5 or so bags sitting either on the drive or in the back garden which they will not remove.
Our garden doesn't really need that much attention, I weed once a month or even less and mow the lawn twice a week when possible, all of this ends up on our compost heap so we have no real need for a green bin let alone a collection of the same regularity as normal waste.
I end up running the extra bags to the tip because I don't want them near the kids, emptied by cats or opened by my dog. When I go I invariable take the bags in the bin as well because there seems little point in leaving them in there.
I understand that we should have less waste due to recycling but some is simply unavoidable If we are really supposed to be recycling then we should have a different bin for each type of waste. I am not willing to store junk plastics in my house or garden until it's time to go to the tip.
Don't even get me started on those food recycling buckets...anyone tried cleaning a week old one out yet?
we have fortnightly collections and our recyling bin is always overflowing. In answer to nappies though perhaps you should consider using cloth ones when at home which would cost you less as well.
We've tried that, our kids skin didn't react well to them. Plus we have enough washing to do without them
