Hi, got a 9x7" plate on motorbike at moment, would like to go to 7x5"
Any issues with this, ie the law side of things & mot ?

Thank you

Ok, I'll give you my opinion on it - It's not worth the ( potential ) hassle.

Dark visors ( perfectly sensible if weather conditions / time of day warrant it ) and louder than stock aftermarket exhaust systems are, 99.9% of the time, overlooked by the police if you are unlucky enough to get pulled. Smaller than normal number plates, are not. And if its a tiny one, you can expect to have a pink chitty issued. A recent Bikesafe course ran by our local plod threw this issue up and the traffic cops in my force area will happily turn a blind eye to a race system but told us that small plates were an instant ticket which they have been issued guidelines about from their Chief Officer. I'm almost certain this is echoed up and down the country.

I have a slightly smaller than stock sized plate on my RSV ( can't recall what size, I'll nip out and measure it ;) ) , small enough to tidy the back end up compared to the "barn door" sized standard plate but not too small that it will raise eyebrows from the boys in blue. Also, stick with a standard font and spacing unlike some of the styles the chaved up Corsa and Focus brigade tend to favour and forget the single line "letterbox" style - those are like a red rag to a bull.

My smaller than stock one mounted on an "Rsend" tail tidy bracket :-

Cheers Drager,

Just spoke to local traffic divison of police, they said 7x5" is okay. as long as on 2 lines and normal spacing.

I have had one made about a month ago which is 7x5" the numbers/letters are smaller than normal (only slightly though). Plus I have had 3 letters on the bottom centre put on (my nickname).

Tempted to put it on. What fne/points can you be looking at?

Thanks

As far as I remember, the fixed penalty is £60 and is non-endorsable. The last small plate I had on the Mille ( previous to the plate in the pic above ) was about the size of a fag packet and really was extracting the Michael a little. I got pulled for it ages ago and the bike cop let me off with a pink slip rectification notice which meant the plate was taken off and fitted with the barn door and my ( at that time ) Blue Flame stainless can was replaced by the standard Aprilia dustbin sized can and off I toddled to my local spanner monkey for him to certify I had changed it all. Needless to say the fag sized plate never went back on although the standard can didn't stay in place for long. :D

Looks fine to me mate, looks about the same size as the one I currently have fitted.

I'll dig out the old "fag packet" sized one that I took off ages ago, take a pic and post it up for a laff. I've still got it lying around somewhere. :)

I fitted an 8x6 plate to mine so it tidies up the rear end but without looking too conspicuous. Unless you want to risk being pulled all the time I'd stick to something that's not going to catch police attention, 7x5 might just be a touch too small IMO.
