i am thinking of upgrading my speakers and have been looking at these speakers on the used market ,any one have a pair or would like to offer an opinion on these ? (i guess im looking to know if they would be a worthwhile upgrade from my b+w 601s2's) current system is

cyrus 3i amp
derek shek ulimate dac with reclocking
b+w 601s2 speaker
silver aniversry speaker cable
marantz cd5400
cable talk monitor 3 interconnects
mark gant digital coax

if not the speaker maybe someone could pointout what would be worthwhile upgrading (for around the £200 mark max) ,i know the marantz cd player aint that good but only use it as a transport ,maybe i should get a dedicated transport instead of the speakers?

cheers

Can't comment on Rega speakers. I have a Cyrus amp and enjoy Castle speakers with this. As I am sure you are aware, speakers are the part of the chain that have by far the greatest effect on the style of sound of a system. They are also incredibly room and setup dependent. Is there any aspect of the systems presentation you don't like at present? I think unless you make a significant upgrade in terms of cost with loudspeakers you are just looking to adjust the balance of presentation rather than any out and out upgrade. This might or might not be what you are looking for.
My understanding is that Marantz players have a pretty decent Philips transport, I'd certainly keep this for now.
Whilst it's a lot easier to score a bargain second hand, it's a lot harder to find the best move to upgrade. The reality is you need to listen to speakers (for the budget it's the component I would think to change first) and build up a list that you like the sound of. What works in your system and room to your ears might not work in mine or to my ears. There aren't really any real dud components out there, but there are loads that you probably won't like and loads that you will.
My advice would be to hit the good independent dealers first and listen to some kit, it's good fun.
