Beta 2 currently does NOT support x64 (64bit) operating systems of any version. However, you can run any supported x86 operating system on 64bit hardware.

Basically it is a server OS for noobs ;) it's simplified server OS for running a home server. It's not for running as main OS

Its a Home Server for Home Users.

Home Server has a lot of nice technology within it. More details can be found here: http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/whs_preview.asp

How long did it take for you chaps to receive the trial information? I'd love to have a go on this.

Seems like a good 'starting' stepping stone for future home media centre stuff. You can really imagine MS having a home OS for running all your tv/dvd/music needs in the not to distant future.

However at the moment it seems like a bit of a fad with a very niche market. I couldn't really see anyone outside of a forum like this buying and setting it up.

I think the only people likely to want a server in their house are going to be the ones who either use Linux, or pirate Windows Server 2003.

I honestly can't see anything like this taking off with the home user market.

This would kind of system would be fantastic for an office of 5 users who want a simple system to backup and store files on.

Home use wise, I think it will become popular over a duration of time (years), more and more homes have multiple pc's and laptops and would like to store and backup files onto them.

I could see myself using it. A Linux file server it doesn't have the facilities and integration that Home Server has.

I had my conformation from MS in the early hours and have now got my key and downloaded the media, so will install this afternoon hopefully and see how it goes.

The concept is interesting will be looking forward to seeing how it's been implemented. :)
