Quick question - last time I upgraded a motherboard (which would have been around win 98) it was generally good practice to reinstall the OS at the same time as windows would get confused. Now we're on Windows 7, is it still a good idea or can I get away without doing it?

There is no need to do it, I don't think, unless you are moving to a completely different motherboard. If using a retail copy it will be easy as you can simply use the same license key. However, if using OEM, it will take a phone call to MS to make them transfer your key for use on the new mobo.

If your moving to a different board with a different Chipset etc then I would suggest a clean install. You might be able to get it working without doing a clean install but could experience problems later on down the line.

Yeah always best doing a clean install when changing chipset, saves time in the long run with potential problems.
