Reinstalling a MBP, Time Machine question

My sisters MBP has an intermittent sound issue and a visit to the Genius Bar later determined that the issue is software rather than hardware. He suggested we backup and reinstall and recover our data from the Time Machine backups.

It sounds quite straight forward. Is it though? With a fresh installation of SL is it a case of connecting the Time Machine HDD and recovering the data and programs from there? She has MS Office and a few other programs installed. Will they be recovered too, or do we have to find the DMG's and re-install before recovering the data?

Thanks.

Personally speaking I would never recommend anyone trust a backup of this sort.

Best bet is to copy the required data yourself to a pen drive or USB hd, the reinstall.

Osx is a breze to install though you will need all the disks for any installed software

I've used this method many times with great success. Yes just reinstall and use the Migration Assistant to pull all the files and apps across!
