Hi,

I'm about to re install Vista Home Premium 64bit again on my computer, now I have two hard drives (C and G)

Now, I dont mind the data on C getting wiped as I can transfer most of this over to drive G, but my question is.....

If when I reinstall windows back on drive C, and I re plug in my other drive (G), will windows pickup the files (Games/Photo's etc) so save me having to reinstall everything all over again back onto drive G?

Just I dont want to go through the hassel is I can help it?

*I hope the above makes sense, as its hard to explain what I mean :(

As far as I know (somebody correct me if I am mistaken) you will have to re-install most apps & games as they will have registry entries from your wiped C drive which are required.

There may be some apps that run but I wouldnt bet on it!

dmx07 is right - you'll have to reinstall most of your apps. If you have you're my docs etc on G drive you can simply redirect your windows my documents folder to the same location and office etc will pick up all your files, but pretty much everything else will have to be reinstalled.

Hummm,

Ok so I might need to reinstall games, fair enough.

What about things like pictures, as I have about 20GB of wedding photo's for my dad's business and I can't see him been to chuff if these have all disapeared!!!!

Any documents that you need to keep should be kept on the g drive, ive done this loads of times, things like photos, movie clips and saved game files etc i keep on a second drive, when it comes to reinstalling i simply format the c drive, reinstall os and all my data is safe on the other drive, you will have to reinstall certain apps though.

Hard Drive reinstall

Posted this in the windows/sofeware ofurm section, but this forum seems more active and its to do with the hard drive anyways!

I'm about to reinstall windows back onto drive C, now I have files og another drive (G), which I'm needing to keep and do not want to get wiped.

Now, if I unplug the 2nd hard drive when I do a reinstall and then plug back the 2nd drive once I'm all resetup, will windows just continue to use the drive as normal before I did the reset?

Just I have about 20/30gb worth of files I'm wanting to keep which are family holidays (pictures) and my dad's wedding business (picture/video's) and have no way of storing these files :(

A) this is the memory section not HDD section, lol
B) yes it will be able to view them fine
C) you dont need to actually unplug the drive, windows will only format the one drive youre instaling on c:, it will leave all others alone
