Hi

I bought a system from you guys a year ago last xmas. I need to completely reformat my pc and reinstall windows. I have only just discovered that you don't supply a windows disk just the Gigabyte intel series utility disc. After reading various posts on the internet I discovered that I could download a copy of windows 7 64 bit iso from digital river which I have done and burnt to a dvd-R using nero. I have rebooted my pc and set the bios to boot from disc but all I keep getting is an error message stating the following:- An error occured whilst reading the boot configuration data. My pc then proceeds to boot back into windows and I'm back where I started. I tried to set the boot drive to my external harddrive after extracting the iso file there but that didn't work either. How the hell are you suppose to reinstall windows on to a pc when you don't supply a windows installation disk, lucky for some people who have the computer knowledge to know what an iso file is. What if that person is not comp[uter savvy then basically they are screwed. Can you please give me a step by step instructions on how to reinstall windows 64 bit onto my system and what programs and how to use them to do this. I have spent most part of today trying to figure this out and got absolutely nowhere. I don't want to end up having to pay over £170 for a windows 7 installation disc when I originally would have thought that you would have provided this as part of my original purchase.

Many Thanks Jason

Also you should put a post onyour site stating that you don't supply the windows installation disk as part of the purchase and explain in a forum post in detail what a user should do if they need to do a complete reinstall.

If you are doing a fresh install on the drive that has your current OS, then just install from in windows. Make sure you have saved or backed up any data you wish to keep and be sure to have a copy of the Windows key.
Go to the folder that has your Win 7 ISO file and extract using 7Zip or similar. Once you have extracted all the files, just click on step up to start the installation.
Don't forget to have your mobo chipset and drivers to hand, for when the install is complete. Store them on another hdd, so you can access them when needed.

Already tried that got an error message which resulted in me not being able to continue with the installation. Windows setup has experienced an unexpected error, to install windows please restart the installation, error code 0x583

In a previous email to overclockers they stated

You will have received a Windows DVD with your system (usually found inside the motherboard box). To re-install you will need to use this disk.

Please let me know how you get on.

Regards,

Dan Smith

The only disc I got was the Gigabyte Intel 7 Series utility DVD but I dont think thats the win install disc

okay I tried the usb/dvd tool but when I select the either one or the other iso files I downloaded the program tells me the following:- the selected file is not a valid iso file, yet I can use winrar and see that it has the required windows 7 installation files.

What Gpu do you have?
You could try uninstalling most of your software via Device Manager, in case something is causing a conflict.

So If I'm understanding this correctly it sounds like perhaps there's something wrong with the Windows DVD you burnt, used to happen to me a lot so I stopped using DVDs and went with USB.

I'd advise to try burning that or another unmolested Windows iso again on the slowest speed & maybe even try a different burner like CDBurnerXP. I'd also say get a USB flash drive too and keep Windows on that for next time.

okay used that program to verify the iso and it says it's not a recognised windows 7 image. Okay so looks like I need to download another windows 7 64 bit iso, but where from, that was from Digital river, microsoft used them to host their windows installers for people who had no disc but had a valid product key like I do.

Okay well that seemed to have worked. Manage to reinstall windows 7 from the iso. Have installed all my drivers etc. Just need to make sure everything is working then activate this cpy of windows with my key.
