I tried to look on google but I get conflicting answers, so I thought I'd ask here. Im going to be upgrading my PC, with it comes a new mobo, from a ASUS to a gigabyte, Im keeping hard drives so I still have windows 7 on. Because of this, when I come to start the pc again, will I need to reinstall Windows 7 or will I be fine?

Some people manage to get away without a reinstall, but generally it's best to reinstall Windows to avoid any major motherboard driver conflicts.

being I have 2 hard drives, would it be wise to have my main drive plugged in alone when i install then once windows is installed add the 2nd drive?

Yup. This is to ensure all the boot files go onto the main drive. You can get the odd problem where some of the boot files go onto the secondary drive, which means Windows can't boot without both of them. So make sure only the main drive is connected when installing.

you can get away with it .. but you will most likely have some issues
I changed mobo etc on my system and it was ok apart from some usb issues .... eventually I had to fresh install

this^^^
Is it a retail or OEM version of windows, as windows will then be un-activated on the new mobo.
as microsoft deem a new mobo as a new pc, if its an OEM version, you will have to re-activate it.
best ringing microsoft, and just say mobo died, and you had to replace it, this works most of the time
