reinstalling windows...through cmds, help

my windows XP CD is too scratched to install so im trying to install windows 2000 on a laptop but the particular win2000 CD i have doesnt autorun for some reason so i have to execute setup from command prompt but ive forgotten how to do it

ive got to the point where im at D:\I386\ on the cmds but im not sure where to go from there

type winnt.exe and it should start the install process.

will this work through the XP recovery console by the way? i dont have any form of boot disks and the only way to get to a command prompt is if i use the winXP first

No that will not work.

you can get the win2k boot image for the CD and the floppy boot images from the microsoft website if you have a poke around.

other than that try the win98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com then just change to the cddrive and i386 folder and type winnt.exe to start the install.

bah ill have to hunt around for a blank CD then

I have a floppy drive you can have for free mate if you need one that bad dont know if it works thou havent used it in years

I have about 50 floppy disk drives so if you need one if you would cover postage I could send you one if you like.

well this is the first time ive needed to use a floppy drive in over 6months lol, ill see if i can sort it with a CD, if not i may come ask one of you for a floppy drive
