Release Date Rants

I used to work at GAME and I asked this question as well, if I remember rightly it was due to the busiest days of the week they release on a Friday, on Fridays and Weekend they have the most staff cover. I think I remember that GAME themselves had a large governing force in making this decision for the UK...I really could be talking out my arse though, it was a long time ago now.

It should annoy everyone really as why should the UK be different, we probably pay more for the game as well in all honesty.

Ive also had a very busy day, gave blood this morning, had a cup of tea and a biscuit.. the ladies said take it easy, luckily im off. Cant play my game though can I!

 I assume this game is the only 1 you own?

And seriously what game are you talking about here? A quick look at steam i can only see Front Mission Evolved coming out this week which as it happens is 40 euros full price, almost certainly more than the equivilent is in GBP.

Now I know its been like this for years and probably people have moaned or an explanation... but im pretty annoyed tbh.

Why do the rest of the world get their games today, yet I have to wait to Friday to get mine?

This include digital distribution which because im in the UK is racist against me and prevents me getting the game when its actually released...whether I have paid pre-ordered or not.

Now, I look around on the net... get wound up obviously that people are playing the game legit... even more so that its out there on the dodge' being played.

So im being punished by an industry that cannot plan how to wipe its own ****.

In a mood I phone up a computer game retailer, say look you obviously have it out back, its released worldwide, I can get it illegally now if I want... do you want my cash for me to buy it now, or cant you do it. The answer, No we cant sell it.

Cant be bothered anymore.
Move to USA, problem solved ... ;)

friday is payday for a lot plus people will buy games on a friday so they can have a gaming session over the weekend simples :D

The big high st names & etailors are the ones controlling this in the UK.

That's why most PC games do not unlock on Steam or anywhere else digitally until much later. Its also why the digital prices are fixed the way they are on releases ;)

No-one wants to upset them right now so its not going to change until download speeds in the UK are much faster (5 years plus probably). MS/Sony would cut them out tomorrow if they knew the same number of games could be sold via PSN/XBL/GFWL as the profit margin would be much better......

Sometimes when you go on the high st & look for a newly released game & cannot see it the usual reason for this used to be that the publisher could or would not agree to the retail margins (which are quite high ) so they refused to let them have stock until the retailor climbed down.

That hadn't occured to me but it's a valid point. I can't remember having a job that either didn't pay me weekly or my salary on a Thursday or Friday. I'm sure there are work places out there that do, but it's always been those two days in my case... unless you count my first paper round job about 20 years ago!

tbh I have a fair few games either on't PC or PS3 but once ive got my heart set on something new... I can barely manage to play anything else and infact lose interest.

The game, well is NBA 2K11 due on Steam today as per Ronnie2K's tweet :D But as I suspect if it shows today (possibly not as whoever runs Steam are racist against me) then the game will be locked in my region till Friday.

However it came out at midnight US time, some people even had it before then.. that wound me up, and then I see that the AUS region have it, that ticks me off.

Now the games cheap as chips tbh, £12.99 pre order at online compet., the bunce aint a problem here... its time, I have to have it asap. Id have bunged the till bloke £30 notes if they sold me it in store.

Now everyones losing out.

*Thanks for all the valid reasons for a Friday launch though.. id say as Gamers we have more power than the suppliers and as such should push for this to be changed? We always get walked over in the UK, no one ever moans, just gets on with it...
