Reliability

Focus shouldnt be costing you any more to insure than an Astra - in my case it's always been cheaper to insure a Mondeo, so you might want to do a bit of legwork with insurance. You do get more for your money with a mondeo

Thought about it but the insurance is a bit too much over the focus. Focus is already a fair bit higher over the astra as it is. No real need for a car of that size atm anyway.

Buying a Mondeo is like going to Sainsburys and finding your favourite breakfast cereal is on offer with 75% extra free.

Sure, you might not want 36 weetabix but when they cost less than buying a 24 pack why not?

What he said.

Mondeo is not wanted by theives or chavs, so insurance is low as low claims against this car.

They are very common, so drives down 2nd hand costs. Also young people THINK they cannot insure one, so they are not wanted by young people.

As mondeos are not particularly sought after used cars (very common fleet cars) they are also cheap, yet they look OK, are reliable and are generally a very good car.

I wouldn't touch an 02 laguna,my dads is an 07 plate(so well after facelift) and you can just feel how much better quality it is. Also looks better in my opinion too.

The mondeo will be more relaible,my mates has the 130hp 2.0 diesel and it certainly feels a bit better screwed together but not as comfy as the laguna.
