Hi all, run into a problem since our new VM servers were installed. Basically our tape drive can't compress data anymore as the VM backup files are heavily compressed already so we cant physically backup them up to tape as they wont fit.

Now short of spending a good thousand on an LTO5 tape drive, I'm thinking that using External HDD's is definitely the most cost effective way of backing up data in place of the tapes.

The VM backups are coming in at 320GBish, so I'd probably be inclined to get 500GB at an absolute bare minimum but would be pushing for 750GB-1TB so there is enough headroom for expansion and if we need to build more servers and backup etc.

Can anyone recommend me some reliable, sturdy, USB drives to plonk our backups on (the idea being we have 5 of them, 1 for each day of the week on a cycle)?
