Hey all, i am recently experiancing some very religious problems. I am a Muslim since birth, gone to mosque since the age of 5 all the way to 14 where i finished the Quran and all the other books and then left, and it has just hit me, I was at the mosque for all those years just waiting to leave and after i did i did not read the prayers even once a day, as i didn't believe in what the book said and all the rules and regulations you had to do. I have read the bible and i feel more close to that book more than i do to the Quran. How do i convert myself to the christian belief?

Before you convert to Christianity, I recommend reading "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins.

The result will likely be one of two things:

A) You are disgusted with Dawkins and feel like burning his book. Welcome to Christianity - go to your local church and discuss conversion with the Priest there.

B) You are disgusted with yourself for "ever believing any of this 'God' claptrap" and don't bother with religion ever again.

Either way you will probably be a lot happier in yourself and can get on with life in a way that *you* see fit.

Good Luck

J.

Why bother?

You've figured out Islam is a load of old cobblers, Christianity is just the same claptrap wrapped up slightly differently. The Bible and Quran have more crossovers than Heartbeat and The Royal!

The man has a point.

Walk in to any christian church or give them a call, they will be glad to hear from you.

There is an option C. I think Dawkins is a propaganda-spinning atheist idiot who fancies himself a philosopher. Personally I think he's just as bad as religious fundamentalists - neither are willing to listen to reason on the other side of the argument. I dont think that makes me a christian though.

(I should probably qualify that. I think he's done some good work on the philosophy of biology and evolution theory in the past, but that still doesnt mean he's allowed to spin atheist claptrap all over the bestseller list. There are plennty of other, better philosophers, he just gets so much attention because he's an axe-wielding atheist.)

That should work, but if I were you I would look at possibly finding a church that runs something called an Alpha Course. It is basically a course run for people like you that are thinking about and want to learn about christianity. It goes through all the fundamentals and hopefully means that you will be getting involved in a more 'open' church.

Where abouts do you live? - I may be able to recommend somewhere.

Above all else though any faith is about your personal relationship with God. Don't let anyone railroad you into anything, take a good long look and make sure you are happy with what you are doing and it's consequences. I'm guessing your familly may not be all that happy with what you are thinking about. So it's not a decision to take lightly!

Would you have given such a dismissive and frankly disrespectful reply if he was a christian interested in becoming a muslim?

What interesting double standards you demonstrate.

For a start, I'd question why the Christian belief in particular as both Islam and Christianity are very similar - perhaps concepts of redemption that are lacking within Islam?

My personal advice would be to examine why you feel this way and question what motivates you...

Also, check out all major religions, particularly Buddhism, Judaism, Paganism and Hinduism. It might also be useful to read some of Graham Hancock's books on the history, many of which include ideas on the progression of religion.

You could also check out Carl Jung's theories on religion and the nature of man. Perhaps "Man and His Symbols" by Carl Jung would be a good place to start.

The rules and doctrine seem to be the issue for him. Things like "grow a beard" etc. Perhaps he believes in a divine being and creator but not in the man made regulations that islam enforces.

LOL. Wasn't someone given a death sentance for converting to Xtianity in Somalia or somewhere recently? The sentance was commuted in the end I think.

Yeah, because all Vicars are rich from making money out of their parishoners, and the Archbishop of Canterbury is at the top of the Richlist that just came out

Well that's settled then. Islam and Christianity is simply a load of claptrap. Thanks for clearing that up.

LOL there are times I wish I believed in a religion that told me to grow a beard... I REALLY need a shave! :p

I'm not going to pretend to know a lot about Islam but hopefully can answer most questions on Christianity if you have any.
