What program is best to rely on for checking Cpu tempreature ??

Ive been told best to rely on the hardware monitor in system bios over any windows applications, is that right ???

Also, i notice that when using programs such as everest etc etc etc, they report each indevidual core tempreature and an average cpu tempreature, for example >>
cpu : 25c
core 1 :39c
core 2: 39c
core 3 : 38c
core4 : 38c

In system bios hardware monitor the cpu temp reports as 39c.

Iam confused as to what to beleive and what not to ??

is it best to go with core temps, or the average cpu temp ? and why is there a big difference in the tempreatures anyway ? and is it best to go with what the bios says or the programs ??
I thought the average cpu temp of 25c seemed great, but when you look at the cores at 39c then thats not so good, is this the wrong way to look at it, please advise ??

The CPU temperature is usually an average of the cores which in your case would be 38C.

That 25C being reported is definately not your CPU temp. Perhaps it's the case temperature? Can you post a screen shot of Everest or which ever program you are getting those results from?

yes mate, here ya go >>

The "core" temps are from internal sensors on the cpu, the "cpu" temp is an external sensor on the motherboard hence the difference, or something along those lines.

If in doubt go for the higher reading, which in this case is everest core temps which i would tend to go with anyway.

so iam well safe then considering i have my cpu clocked to 3440 and ram to 1376 ?

would be great if other people told me what thier cpu and core temps are with a similar overclock and using everest please ?

p.s
please keep in mind that these temps are with system on idle.

Yeah i would say those are reasonable idle temps though the load temps are really the only ones that count.

Realtemp or Coretemp are the best programs as they automatically take Tcase into account and work out "real" temps.

If you open up realtemp or coretemp, you will notice that they are usually 10 degrees celsius higher than what EVEREST reports. (It does with my Q6600 anyway).

ok, heres my temps on both realtemp and coretemp >>>

yeah both of which are within a couple of degrees of everest which is what i usually find, get it loaded up with intel burn in or prime95 (for quads) or similar anything that loads all 4 cores to 100% and see what the load temps are.

ok mate, ive done an intel burntest as you can see, but i cant work out what its all about, can someone tell me please ?? here it is >>>

lol, so now ive ran the test and no one knows what it means, hehehe :p

The last paragraph on your screenshot reveals what it is all about :D:D

Its really checking the stability of the system, you should also be monitoring the temperatures while the test is running, coretemp allows you to record the temperatures whilst it is running. This will give you an idea of your full load temps.

Your only running it to get a 100% load on your CPU, and to make sure your PC doesnt crash. Its not important what the program actually does to get that CPU load up.

You should be running something like Realtemp at the same time to see what the temperature peaks at.

Yep but your only at 3.45Ghz. You have room to try for 3.8ghz - 4.0 ghz.

iam happy at that though mate as iam the type of person to leave my system till it gets dusty inside etc, lol, dusty = more heat as you know, plus the summer is coming very soon, so the room tempreauture will be up too, so i think iam best to leave it wheres its at just now when you think of it like that, eh ??
