Remains of the Soviet Space Shuttle

The Russian Shuttle programme spawned the Antonov An-225, the world's largest aircraft. It was designed to transport the Buran shuttle.
 
Russia and rust don't half go well together.

What a waste, when they give up on something they...give up. Plenty of usage for all that material there I think.

Am I right in thinking that the only one that was finished and actually flew was destroyed when the hanger it was stored in fell into disrepair and collapsed on it?

The saddest thing is that the Space Race was only done as a way to keep the population of USA/Russia happy during the cold war.

If nothing else it's fantastic proof of the effectiveness of cold war spy networks and I suppose justifies in part the paranoia on both sides.
