Remapping worth it?

Just got a new Polo GTI , 207PS I think.

I'm tempted to have remap, which one would you recommend? I like VUDU Performance, stage 1 around 260 BHP..that's a huge jump even without any hardware modification.

The only issue is that (I think) the Polo GTI is one-wheel drive (front) so I think it wouldn't handle 260bhp.

Thanks
You can't map the facelift 22+ model yet. It has a different ECU to the pre-facelift and has only recently been unlocked.

Edit:

Google brought me here and I didn't realise how old this topic/post was sorry!

Based on my experience I'd say it was a mixed bag.

What really helped was smoothing the power/torque curve and getting rid of a flat spot which was really noticeable. However I don't think top end power (i.e. the figures quoted) was that useful in most cases in the real world, as it's not often you have your foot flat at 100% throttle orhold onto gears to the redline

In cases where there is a higher power version of a car using the same mechanicals is likely to have the best outcomes as ithere is a known benefit and presumably it will have a sensible and usable power/torque curve as an OEM nodel.

I guess if depends on a combination of the car, your usage and driving style.

I've not yet driven any car with a remap, or tuning box, where a difference hasn't been very apparent. But much depends upon what vehicle it is.

I remapped my 2017 Golf GTI within a week or so of buying it - my previous car was also mapped, so this one felt fairly flat. Power increase of ~50bhp (from 230 to ~280bhp), torque also up - economy fairly similar, ~40mpg on a run, mid-30s typically day to day. Definitely worth it.

Manufacturers, for years, have had a primary focus on fuel efficiency for selling cars. Do you not think that if it was a simple case of software tuning to increase efficiency, that they’d have done it?

I’m very happy to be proven wrong, just have only seen anecdotal evidence on the subject, when there are many other factors which can influence efficiency more.

Emissions first, then economy. Aftermarket remaps can take liberties with the former.

It basically a map on an XF for the later OEM space anyway with 300PS.
