Remember Elite?

edit: nm.

There was a good trade route in frontier, something to do with barnards star. you could get plenty of cash on that :)

I quite like Oolite, but i much prefer Elite : The New Kind which is effectively a reverse engineered version of the BBC B version with a bit better graphics. The website you used be able to get it from has gone, but do a google and it should turn up. Theres also a patch for it which adds other items etc.

Combat in Elite sucked, though - just used to fly directly at etc other, firing like mad with that "traingle" gun :p

Closest thing to it is EVE Online, but that doesn't allow flying onto the planets surface - plus, I never really liked the whole 3rd-person view.

X3 doesn't count because its concept of 'space' sucks - it just feels like a series of zones, where all the bases are packed together.

Battlecruiser3000AD has the right idea, but was terribly executed.

Hopefully, if Elite4 ever comes out (I reckon 2009, personally), it'll be great.

If I remember rightly, its Bernards Star > Earth carrying robots.
Then back again carrying computers.

Might be the other way around with cargo, but it was a simple trade route that could earn you a fair trade over time.

Yeah :) and Elite was Zaonce > Isinor with Computers and Isinor > Zaonce with Furs.

Now you just need someone to upload the full 528meg CD version which in my opinion is far better then the floppy disk version.

Elite 3 the CD version is by far the best space game out. I still play it now with the jjffe mod to up the resolution the game runs at. The only game that comes close is Eve-Online.[/QUOTE]

Got that somewhere around here still shrinkweapped.

It is the best elite game though

But Elite 2 had a good bug in the amiga wich allowed you infinate cargo space ;)
Police inteceptor with a small plasma accelerator, 1000 shields and space for 30 people and a class 8 hyperdrive. ;)

Are you aware of how much that’s worth? The full CD version boxed with manuals and storybook sells for quite a bit over £50 on E-bay. I assume a shrink-wrapped one is worth even more.

I know someone who has the original BBC/Electron version of elite still boxed and unopened!! he also has things like rubber keyed spectrums still boxed and sealed. He ran a computer shop back then and always bought one extra to put into storage. God only knows what his collection is worth now

When i saw a bit of his collection about 7 or 8 years ago he had things like MSX's and dragon32's all unopened. Amiga's and stuff too i bet knowing him.
