Remember Spike? He's pulled!

How do you keep them hygienic? Every one I've seen in the garden or whatever has been totally crawling with fleas and ticks. Are these captive bred ones? V cute whatever.

Because they're gross? They're a parasite ffs. How could you live with them in your house?

Mice just brought in some to my house. They will not leave :(

Sprayed room 3 times so far and done XTREME vacuuming.

They are bad.

We dont have fleas in our house :D
But the dont grose me out.
When was the last time a flea killed someone?

Lots of questions :)

Right, firstly they're not UK domestic Hedgehogs, they're African Pygmy Hedghogs. Perfectly legal to breed and own when they're from captive bred stock. Since they're c/b they're not covered in ticks and mites, and they're perfectly handleable.

Mr Spike is white because he's an Albino. The father of Mrs Spike was an Albino so there stands a good chance the offspring will be Albinos too. :)

As for how they actuallly do it, well it's rather comical since it's done in the usual animal fashion, lol. The female kinda leans forward and sticks her bum out do the quils are as far back as possible. The male *carefully* climbs on and apparently has an extra long schong to reach without being kebabed in the process. Lots of squeaking later, job done. ;)

Oh the romance.

*Wipes tear*

Ticks can carry disease, and are difficult to remove once they imbed into the skin.

Both are disgusting things you don't want to be infested with. Are you a gypsey? Our cat only had a few fleas on him, in this weather you'll soon get thousands of the buggers, had to spray the whole house, vaccuum every room, remove all clothing and re-wash.

The problem is you don't know you've got them until the house is infested. It's not nice if someone comes round and they start to scratch, or go out and loads of fleas clinging to your clothes.

I would read up Lyme disease.
