Whoa those were the days.

Insert.
Install.
play.

Even better on the old consoles.

Insert
Autoplay.

Wow lets reminisce those magical days.

Remember those days when you had to search for patches, and spend ages downloading them, only to find out you needed another even bigger one to play?

and then the days when you bought a game only to fidn out once you insert the disc you need the internet to actually download the game to install it. Then you need a special program to get the download to download the game to isntall it. Then another program to run the game from the isntall. Then a patch to fix the program to run the game then a patch for the isntall to update the game before the game is even playable.

And a spellchecker to spell install?

Who doesn't have the internet? Like 1% of the population? And I'd much rather have a "special program" to manage my games library and keep it up to date.

If you having day 1 issues with every single game you play, you need to sort your setup, they're far rarer than you're insinuating.

Nevermind that its ridiculous I bought fifa 12 and though I had the dvd the game didnt install data from the disc it connected to internet to download the data...wtf is the point of the disc they may as well sent me via email a download serial no.

i remember the days of all that the OP has put but i much prefer it now, click download via steam or some such then play with no faff of patches etc etc.

steam is ok espeially as it always seeks to auto update your games to latest patches.

Cant beat snes, n64 etc. though, cartridges, minimal loadign.

but expensive :)

Is this a moaning post about how games of today don't work as smoothly?

Am I the only one who doesn't have problems with games on a PC? :D

And the universal fix for any issue? Unplug cartridge, blow on it, reinsert and all fixed! Worked every time.

whats up with cartdiges?

how come they had like no loading?

And can they not carry info like a dvd or blu ray? why are they obsolete?

Ahh the good old days of floppies, I swear I still have some massive boxes of them up in the loft....and therein lies the problem. Back then I had maybe 20 games and that filled a few boxes of floppies.

Now I have going on 300 games can you imagine how much money Ikea would have made off me on bookshelf sales if they were all on disc?!?!?!? Or even worse, massive cartridges.

youve got loadsa floppies up in the loft eh? What did you do with their bodies...

bada bing bada boom.

btw what the hell is a cartridge. Guess Ill wiki it. BUt I mean what the hell are they. Cds,dvd, etc are read by lasers which reas data on the disc right? Or if you isntall to hard drive Computer reads data from the hard drives...but what the hell was a crtrdige and how did that work.

When you think about it its really fascianting

From pong to pac man to space invaders to battlefield 3 and skyrim...Really its quite amazing to have such real like environments and physics coming out a monitor to us.

Ah, those were the days... My Spectrum 48k mornings usually went this way:

Find tape
Insert tape
Load ""
'Play'
Go and get washed
Check the game is still loading
Go and get dressed
Check the game is still loading
Go and eat breakfast
Check the game is still loading
Pack bag for school
Play game for roughly 2 minutes
Turn it all off.

Every now and then you would find a game that always managed to load, every time. They were like gold dust and highly cherished or coveted! :p

wth was that?

1st systems I recall are amiga, atari and commodore 64 and cant recall long loading.

My 1st consoles was atari then off course NES

Grand Theft Auto IV came to mind when I saw this thread. Install Rockstar Social Club, Install Windows Live Gaming, download the update.

Took me an hour of updates and installing before I could play..

omg i gave up with that even when i finally got it working it decided it either wouldnt save or would crash every timeI tried to save it.
