A disc is much much cheaper and back when discs first came out they could hold a lot more information than a cartridge. If you put modern NAND memory in the size of a cartridge now it would contain waaaaaaay more info than even a BD-XL disc but it would still be like x1000 the cost.
 
3 1/2 disk.... the spring had broken on the metal protective shutter and it would jam in the drive....

or having quite a few games without the metal shutter to avoid that.

I don't think use of common internet terminology has much to do with age old chap, it's not as though i was typing in leet speak. However I will reword for oyu:

"Either way, correcting someones typos when the rest of their post was well-constructed and they had typed the same word correctly elsewhere is not only a tad dorky, but also distinctly unamusing in all senses of the word.

Ah, those were the days... My Spectrum 48k mornings usually went this way:

Find tape
Insert tape
Load ""
'Play'
Go and get washed
Check the game is still loading
Go and get dressed
Check the game is still loading
Go and eat breakfast
Check the game is still loading
Pack bag for school
Play game for roughly 2 minutes
Turn it all off.

Every now and then you would find a game that always managed to load, every time. They were like gold dust and highly cherished or coveted! :p

wth was that?

1st systems I recall are amiga, atari and commodore 64 and cant recall long loading.

My 1st consoles was atari then off course NES

That happened to me at first. Then I restarted Origin and it claimed to be downloading at about 10MB/s as it was just downloading from the disc. Went as fast as installing from disc anyway.
 
My first experience was a Sinclaire ZX81, the cheap black and white one, that predated the Spectrum...those were the days. My cousin had the Spectrum and we both had a football manager type game, where as I managed my team and went to play the weekend games, the games, as such, just appeared as results on screen.....however, my cousin used to get a visual of the game actually being played, albeit auto played, damn, I was so jealous :mad:

I then owned a Dragon 32, anyone remember this? with games like Caterpillar and a weird card flip game, bought from Boots believe it or not, I then moved onto an Amiga 500, the one with that big sticky out modulator thing, yes it got broke ! :mad:

Eventually Sony and Sega came on the scene, and I thought to myself, "hmmm...Sega make great arcade games, long history in the business.....however, Sony make TV's, wtf they know about gaming, I know which one I am getting........." :o
Nevermind Sega Rally was still awesome :D

You missed out

[*]Turn volume up or down

[*]Use another tape recorder

Also the prices were £2.99 for a budget & £7.99 for a full price game. :p
 
I used to get hypnotized by the loading tape sound.

Oh and press play on tape is the name of my friends band, google it :p
 
Grand Theft Auto IV came to mind when I saw this thread. Install Rockstar Social Club, Install Windows Live Gaming, download the update.

Took me an hour of updates and installing before I could play..
