At work we use HP servers that have integrated lights out (iLO) so we get the same access remotely as if we were standing in front of the server.

I was wondering if there was a card I install into my home server which is just my old PC with an Adaptec RAID card running small business 2003 (soon 2008 once I upgrade the box) that would give me the same functionality as iLO?

Cheers

What functionality do you need? You can get generic cards such as this but it looks pretty expensive. Also without an IPMI controller in your PC I'm not sure how many of the functions would be available.

I just use remote desktop for my home server. It's no use if Windows crashes or you want to power it on from cold but it does 99% of what I need.

I have a Cisco 877 ADSL router setup so I can VPN in and mstsc to my server and PC's but the other day the server crashed and I was unable to do anything till I got home. This is why I'd like to have iLO functionality.

As RobK said you aren't going to get very far with a remote admin card unless the motherboard has the necessary support.

If you just want to be able to reboot the server remotely then a remote controlled power switch such as the iBoot may be an option.
