Hi guys,

My main PC upstairs monitor has broken and now I have no monitor for it for a while, is there anyway I can remote control this PC using my laptop? They both have XP on them.

I can log onto the PC blindly but cannot manage to install software etc so I was just wondering what was available in XP.

Any help appreciated!

Well in XP you can use remote desktop which is installed by default, you can enable it in the system properties (Windows Key + Pause/Break) on the 'Remote' tab. An alternative is a version of VNC such as tightVNC which you can install the server as a service on the broken PC.

Remote desktop is disabled by default i believe, though it would be possible to use a keyboard and enable it blindly, have you got TV-out? plug it into a tv for a temporary measure and either enable remote desktop or install vnc (preffered)

note, only xp pro has remote desktop, not home (pro has the server, remote only has the client)

you'll need tightvnc server, and tight vnc viewer on the pc & laptop respectively
