So I have 2 computers, both running Windows 7 Ultimate, on my homegroup, and I want to be able to control one with the other.

So I went into Network, right clicked on the computer I wanted to control and then clicked "Connect with Remote Desktop Connection." Then it asked me for credentials.

What is a credential?! Neither of the computers have passwords, so I don't know what to do?

Please help!
 
possibly it will not allow an account without a password to RDP in...? so try settings a passowrd and make sure you give it rights to rdp in - but administrators probably have that right by default
 
First off.. set passwords on them in the user accounts section.
-Jot down the computername, username and password for each machine.

Go into Control Panel\System and Security\System

Remote Settings, Allow connections from computers running any version of remote desktop.


Now do the connect with remote desktop connection thing, type in the computername for the other machine. Then, type in the username.password for the other machine and it will connect


Safer to have a password set
 
I'm sorry people, I'm really not computer literate!

So I make an account on the computer I am connecting to with a password?

Then how do I give that account rights?

Then what do I do in the credentials bit?

-to set the passwords, click, start, then, control panel, user accounts. or something like that..
 
You can create a shortcut on the desktop that will directly connect to it. Click options, 'edit', type them in and 'save as'

Then save that to the desktop or wherever..

Also, you could right click and 'pin' the Taskbar entry for it, then right click previously used connections and 'pin' them inside the Taskbar sub menu for Remote Desktop
 
Press Windowskey + R

Type this in and press enter..

control userpasswords2

Untick the tick box, then type in your username and password, click ok and restart to test :)
 
Just one more though that I just stumbled across: what about when the computer goes to sleep? I have to put in the password :(

Do you have a magic trick for that? :p
