I want to be able to RDP to a mates machine, is it just a case of having him disable his firewall?
Also has anyone heard of dame ware? can you only connect to machines locally on a network or alos remotely?

If he has a router, he will have to forward port 3389 to his machine. If he has a firewall he needs to allow traffic on port 3389.

And if asked by the firewall app it's tcp you want to forward not udp

Also your mate will have to enable RDP on his machine. Remote Desktop is only available in windows XP Pro, windows 2000 pro or windows 2003. In XP Home there is remote assistance instead, but your mate will also have to send you an invite to connect.
